Welcome to the Recreation, Parks, and Tourism Resources (RPTR) Program at West Virginia University!

We are a recognized leader in training the future managers of recreation, park, and tourism areas and organizations in America and internationally. With a rich tradition of 56 years as an academic program at West Virginia University, we are proud of our contributions to enhancing the economic, community, and citizen welfare of West Virginia and beyond.

  • Dr. Steven W. Selin has received a commendation in recognition of outstanding service by the Association of Public and Land-grant Universities Board on Agriculture Assembly, Academic Programs Section for his work with A.P.L.U.
  • Dr. David Smaldone is participating in an interdisciplinary team studying the karst features in the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal National Historical Park; He “will use the team’s scientific findings to help develop educational resources for park visitors.” Read More>>
